So I bought a new camera. It's just a little bit better than my old one.
Lacking actual things to photograph, this purchase has led to an unfortunate amount of self portraiture.
Here's the very first snap of the shutter!
Dosen't this make you itchy?
The other thing to take a picture of when there's nothing to take a picture of is my apartment. Which is wonderful, actually, on winter mornings. The rising sun simultaneously bounces off both the giant apartments to the west of me and the downtown skyscrapers to the north of me (the sun is directly behind the camera in this photo)
Same scene with a dirty UV filter.
It does pretty well in the dark...
...which came in very handy when my friend Gretchen asked me to take some photos of her very dark, very awesome installation a couple of weeks ago.
I haven't had a movie-capable camera since my dearly departed, dusty, and often dropped Cannon S110 Elph (2001-2003, RIP).
I'm pretty excited about taking videos. A couple of weekends ago I bought a fluid head from guy in Boulder off of craigslist & spent the rest of the day in the mountains trying it out.
One thing I've wanted to do for a long time is take some video with the lens I made last year out of an old slide-viewer (basically a plastic magnifying glass).
These facts should be self-evident from the preceeding: I have no meaningful experience writing music, playing guitar, editing movies, or designing optical equiptment. I should probably be legally prevented from singing.
Finally, as a double-farewell to the D40 and to 2010, here are my favorite photos from the year that weren't taken on any big trips and so didn't make it into any of my posts. A few little no-context moments that needed a home. Goodnight, 2010! Goodnight, Nikon D40!
